Indian Summer
Mountain Parnitha, situated in Athens, is one of the few national parks located so near to a capital city. After the consecutive devastating fires in recent years, the park has noticeably decreased in size. When I returned there after the last devastating fire in 2023, the scene was apocalyptic.
However, the burnt forest still retains its appeal, which I try to capture with my images.
Beauty has a strong ability to convey complex ideas. It captivates and penetrates people. The trees are still stunning, and that makes it the more disturbing to find out they are not part of a picturesque autumn scene but burned. Many photos are captured at midday, highlighting the severity of the situation. While my images focus on a specific disaster, I want to raise awareness not only about climate change, but also about acting to avoid the same mistakes.
With or without us, Nature will persist in its existence.
